JAY-Z Says He’s Not Retiring But He’s Also Not Actively Making Music
In a sneak peek at season two of Kevin Hart’s Hart to Hart, JAY-Z opens up about the possibility of releasing new music in the future.
JAY-Z isn’t leaving the game anytime soon. Access Hollywood has shared a two-minute preview of Kevin Hart‘s Peacock series Hart to Hart in it’s second season, where the rap veteran talks about the potential of releasing new music.
“Nah, I tried [retirement]. I’m terrible at that” Jay said, a nod towards his 2003 release The Black Album, which he once claimed would be his final LP. “I just needed a break … I was really burnt out at that time. I was releasing an album every year … I just looked up one day and I was like, ‘I’m tired.’ I’d never been on vacation until, say, 2000, my whole life.”
Although Hov said that he isn’t actively working on a new project, he’s nowhere near retirement.
“I don’t know what happens next,” he added. “I’m not actively making music or making an album or have plans to make an album, but I never want to say that I’m retired. It’s a gift, and who am I to shut it off? It’s open to whatever. And it may have a different form or interpretation. Maybe it’s not an album, maybe it is. I have no idea, but I’m just going to leave it open.”
Hov last released Everything Is Love with his wife and longtime collaborator Beyoncé in 2018 while the two were on their global tour On The Run II. One year prior, the rapper released his most recent solo album 4:44, which garnered critical acclaim.
Season two of Hart to Hart will arrive on Thursday (June 14) with appearances from Chris Rock, Tracee Ellis-Ross, Saweetie, Pete Davidson and more.
