In a new interview with NME, The Internet frontwoman Syd said that the group’s follow-up to 2018’s Hive Mind would be their last.

Sad news for fans of The Internet. While promoting her sophomore album Broken Hearts Club, Syd spoke with NME about her new music and declared that the next album from The Internet would be their last.

The next Internet album will also be our last,” said the singer, born Sydney Bennett. “I have no idea what’s next. I don’t know. Maybe we’ll create an Internet label. We talked about that – just signing ourselves.”

The group’s most recent album, Hive Mind, was released in 2018, a year after Syd released her first solo album Fin and three-track EP Always Never Home. Prior to the release of Hive Mind, the remainder of The Internet released their own respective projects, including Matt Martians (The Drum Chord Theory), Steve Lacy (Steve Lacy’s Demo), Patrick Paige II (Letters of Irrelevance) and Christopher Smith as part of C&T (Loud). Since then, Lacy last released his Grammy nominated Apollo XXI and The Lo-Fis, Martians released The Last Party and Going Normal and Paige dropped If I Fail Are We Still Cool?

Earlier in the interview, Bennett ensured that the group is still close-knit. “The Internet is exactly what we want it to be,” she said. “It’s a snapshot of where we are at the time – individually and together. Most of us actually had dinner last night. We do Sunday night wine night, but this is the first time that Matt’s been able to participate because he lives in Georgia.”

Syd last performed at Los Angeles festival Smokin’ Grooves, where she teased cuts from Broken Hearts Club. With features from Lucky Daye, Smino and KehlaniBroken Hearts Club will release on Friday, April 8th.
