Meek Mill took a moment to sadly remind his followers that issues with police brutality are certainly not new.

On Wednesday (May 27), amid growing outrage over George Floyd’s police killing, Meek shared a photo of the aftermath of an encounter with cops in his days before fame. With a swollen eye and multiple bandages on his face, the Philadelphia-born rhymer provided tangible proof of how dangerous these encounters can be for minorities with the people being paid to protect and serve.

“Mom my took this pic and filed it with internal affairs, nothing happened!” Meek wrote in the caption. “I been a rebel since!!! #georgefloyd I got charges for breaking one of the cops hands also like he didn’t break his hand on my face!”

Meek has been continuing on his mission for prison reform throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, donating 100,000 masks to the prison system with JAY-Z just last month. The donation was made through the pair’s REFORM Alliance organization, with the goal of protecting both inmates and correctional staff at Rikers Island in New York, the Tennessee Department of Corrections and the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman.
