Watch Robert Glasper The Roots, Rapsody, DJ Jazzy Jeff & More Perform on ‘Fallon’

Jazz pianist Robert Glasper teamed up with The Roots, Rapsody, DJ Jazzy Jeff, BJ The Chicago Kid and Amir Sulaiman on The Tonight Show.

Black Radio III has been televised. During last night’s episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Robert Glasper had a musical spotlight and brought along some special artists guests. Performing “Black Superhero” from his upcoming Black Radio III from his Black Radio album series, Glasper was backed by The Roots, DJ Jazzy Jeff, BJ The Chicago Kid and Rapsody, with opening spoken word from poet Amir Sulaiman.

While Big K.R.I.T. and Killer Mike, who are also featured on “Black Superhero” weren’t present during Fallon, Rapsody covered for the rappers seamlessly.

Last week, Glasper announced on his Instagram that the Black Radio III 13-track LP would arrive on February 25th. Along with the release date, Glasper also dropped the visual for “Black Superhero”, directed by Charlie Buhler. Black Radio III will also have guest spots from India.Arie, Musiq Soulchild, Lalah Hathaway, PJ Morton, Ledisi, Jennifer Hudson, Ty Dolla $ign, Yebba, Ant Clemons, Q-Tip and Common.

Black Radio III is Glasper’s first project since 2019 mixtape F*ck Yo Feelings which was nominated for Best Progressive R&B Album Grammy in 2020. Mixtape single “Better Than I Imagined” with H.E.R. and Meshell Ndegeocello was also nominated for Best R&B Song. The inaugural Black Radio, released in 2012, Best R&B Album in 2013.

This year, Glasper is Grammy-nominated yet again, up for Best Traditional R&B Performance (“Born Again” with Leon Bridges) and Best Progressive R&B Album for Dinner Party: Dessert with supergroup Dinner Party featuring Terrace Martin, 9th Wonder, and Kamasi Washington.
