Rolling Loud pulled up to New York City, featuring performances from J. Cole, Rico Nasty, Bobby Shmurda, and more.

Despite a rainy weekend, Rolling Loud New York 2021 made its way to the Citi Field in Queens, New York this past weekend (October 28th-30th.) The festival — which featured three stages wasn’t perfect — with complaints about the heavy police presence and a couple of rappers going MIA (including Fetty Wap, who was arrested on drug charges by the feds before his show.) Okayplayer was on the scene, including photographer Vickey Ford, who toughed out the weather conditions to shoot the festival.

Day one highlights included sets from Bobby Shmurda, Rico Nasty, and Jack Harlow, who brought out an animated Lil Nas X. 50 Cent was the de facto headliner after Lil Durk didn’t show. And 50 mixed in the old and the new, performing songs from his classic Get Rich or Die Tryin’ while also embracing newer rappers like A Boogie wit Da Hoodie — the current king of New York — and DaBaby.

Rolling Loud gets labeled as a festival for SoundCloud rappers. But day two was dominated by old school spitters. Saturday’s highlights include Wale, who brought out Q-Tip, and Rick Ross. The night was capped by J. Cole who performed a set during torrential rain.

By Friday, the weather had calmed down a bit. But those in attendance where prepared, rocking ponchos and rain jackets. Travis Scott closed the festival doing songs from his catalogue including unreleased songs from his upcoming album, Utopia.
