The late rapper’s hometown unveils details for a street-naming ceremony in his honor.

A few weeks back, a campaign to have a street named after MF DOOM won over the city council of the late rapper’s hometown of Long Beach, NY. And now, the beach-and-bay-locked city has announced a ceremony to honor DOOM will take place this weekend.

According to a press release, the street will be dedicated to both DOOM, born Daniel Dumile, and KMD, the group Dumile founded with his brother, Subroc, who tragically passed at just 20-years-old when he was struck by a car while crossing the Long Island Expressway. The ceremony will take place on Saturday, July 31st, at 2pm, at the corner of Hudson Street and Riverside Boulevard in Long Beach. The stretch of Hudson between Riverside and Long Beach Boulevard, where the Dumile brothers spent some of their early years, will henceforth be called “KMD-MF DOOM Way.” The dedication was approved by Long Beach City Council on July 6th, a week shy of what would have been DOOM’s (disputed and yet to be confirmed) 50th birthday.

DOOM passed on October 31st of 2020. But in a bit of theater only The Villain could write, the public was informed two months later on December 31st. Since his passing, a number of loose DOOM verses have been postuhumously released. The Madvillainy rapper was featured on BADBADNOTGOOD‘s contribution to a Grand Theft Auto Online expansion, a posse cut off IDK’s new album, USEE4YOURSELF, and a rugged cut off the recent Your Old Droog album, TIME. Additionally, in May, Czarface unleashed a surprise collaborative album recorded with DOOM before his death.
