Logic and Madlib Share Another New Single as “MadGic”
“Raddest Dad” is the second single from the duo in less than a month.
Last month, Logic signaled a collaborative album with Madlib could be on the way with the release of “Mars Only Pt. 3.”
The track, which repurposes Madlib’s beat for “Rappcats Pt. 3,”was quietly uploaded to the DMV rapper’s Youtube page, where he’s been stashing new songs and home videos well into his alleged “retirement.” After a few weeks and a few more bits of new music, Logic sent up another Madlib-produced loosie on Saturday morning. With fatherhood and paying his dues in mind, this time, the rapper’s off to the races over the instrumental for Roc Marciano‘s “The Sacrifice,” featured on the New York rapper’s 2013 album, The Pimpire Strikes Back.
Logic discussed his interest in making an album with Madlib during an interview with The Needle Drop last year. “The only guy I’d make an album with is Madlib. And if we were gonna do it, we’d coin ‘MadGic,’ and it wouldn’t be a Logic album,” the rapper said. According to a post from the producer’s manager, Egon Alapatt (see below,) Madlib joined Logic at his home in Malibu last month, where he delivered four tapes of new beats. But so far, the MadGic singles have featured plenty of new Logic verses and no new Madlib beats whatsoever, which is certainly a headscratcher. Unless, of course, the rapper is holding off for the album. Suppose we’ll just have to wait and see to test that theory.
Should a “MadGic” project surface, it would mark the producer’s second album of the year. In January, he released Sound Ancestors via his Madlib Invazion. Pick up a copy on vinyl via Rappcats.
