Ronald Sweeney was Lil Wayne’s lawyer between 2005 and 2018 and his manager in 2018.

A few years back, he sued Weezy for $20 million for unpaid commissions.

Sweeney is peeved because he believes he was owed more than what he got when Wayne settled his long-running lawsuit against Birdman and Cash Money in 2018

The lawsuit states  that Wayne“failed and refused to pay plaintiffs his promised 10 percent of the recovery from lawsuits, 10 percent of the sale of master recordings owned by Lil Wayne’s record label, and then 17 percent in general commissions that he owes to Plaintiffs in connection with Plaintiff’s day to day management activities.”

Wayne responded to the suit by countersuing for $20 million.  But it doesn’t look like that is going to work.

Earlier this month, an appeals court ruled in Sweeney’s favor, throwing out four of the allegations in Wayne’s suit against him, including causes of action for fraudulent inducement, legal malpractice, breach of fiduciary duty, and unjust enrichment.

The dismissals render Wayne’s suit impotent.

Sweeney’s legal team believes Wayne’s suit was just a ploy to allow him to ignore their suit.  Now that it’s been eliminated, Sweeney’s lawyer John Harris thinks Weezy will have to pay up.

Harris told Law.com that he’s “pleased that the Court of Appeals rejected Lil Wayne’s cynical attempt not to pay Ronald Sweeney for the work Mr. Sweeney did for him,” adding he “will be vigorously pursuing his payment claims and will require Lil Wayne to appear in court to answer for his actions.”
