Watch Lil Baby Go From Atlanta Hustler to Grammy-Winner in the First ‘Untrapped’ Trailer
A trailer for the new documentary, “Untrapped: The Story of Lil Baby,” shows the Atlanta rapper’s early career arc and struggles with the failure of American institutions.
The first trailer for an upcoming documentary on Lil Baby’s life and career, titled “Untrapped: The Story of Lil Baby,” is out now. The full documentary will be streaming globally to Amazon Prime Video on August 26.
“Untrapped” follows the story of Dominique “Lil Baby” Jones, from studio trapper and notorious dice shooter to Grammy-winning and two-time Billboard 200 chart-topping rapper. Produced by Lil Baby and Quality Control Music moguls Kevin “Coach K” Lee and Pierre “P” Thomas, the documentary boasts years of never-before-seen footage and the trailer features clips from interviews with Drake and Young Thug.
The two-and-a-half-minute trailer hints at the full range of Baby’s character arc over the course of the documentary.
“I never wanted to be a rapper,” Baby’s voice says. “I was already young and turnt in the streets.” Young Thug then points out Baby was already making millions of dollars before ever dropping a song. But after a series of arrests in 2012, 2013 and 2014 for charges related to possession of and intent to sell marijuana, a two year prison sentence shook up his life.
As the tone of the trailer takes a solemn turn, we hear Baby’s voice again, “America has a system in place and it’s designed for us to fail. It’s a trap,” he says. “I became an artist. With something to say and people to stand for.”
The documentary will be set to a soundtrack of Lil Baby’s greatest hits and directed by Karam Gill, who previously directed the Showtime mini-series, “Supervillain: The Making of Tekashi 6ix9ine.”
