Snoop Dogg discusses the past, present, and future of Death Row.

Nearing 25 years since he parted ways with the legendary West Coast label, Snoop Dogg is making a case for the return of Death Row Records with new, but familiar, management.

In a career-spanning interview with Gillie Da King and Wallo267 on the duo’s Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast, Snoop staked his claim in the revival of Death Row and declared “I should be running that shit.” The rapper went on to cite his recent role as an executive creative consultant at Def Jam as evidence of being ready for his run as a label owner, especially as a member of the core group of rappers who turned Death Row into a global banner for Los Angeles rap. “Death Row means more to me because I helped create that,” Snoop says, adding how he believes the label could have signed perennial LA hitmakers like YG, Roddy Rich, and Ty Dolla $ign, if he’d been handed the keys earlier.

Later in the interview, Snoop hints that he might even get his shot. “A little birdie told me it may fly my way,” Snoop teases. “If I can get Def Jam poppin’, what could I do with Death Row? Just imagine that.”

The Death Row Records catalog was recently sold to The Blackstone Group in the acquisition of eOne Music from Hasbro, who bought Entertainment One in 2019 for a whopping $4 billion, bringing the controversial label under the same roof as Peppa Pig and a good chunk of the Wu-Tang Clan catalog for a few years.
