Created in collaboration with artist Alex De Corte, Whack’s new visual is an expansive experience.

Tierra Whack returns with a brand new single exploring the woes and the high points of 2020, “Dora.”

Paired with an imaginative video by sculptural artist Alex De Corte, Whack’s “Dora” is an expansive experience. The clip is De Corte’s take on a line from Aretha Franklin’s album Young Gifted & Black: “I’ll stage a ballet on a tabletop, command performance finger sized.”

The Philadelphia rapper appears numerous times in the clip, she’s not herself. Instead, she’s reimagined as a character dwelling in an eccentric universe, the tabletop. The doors that are opening during the video serve as a nod to what the future may hold beyond 2020.

Whack’s imagination led to the creation of the exploratory video, she tasked De Corte with creating it months ago. It’s cartoon-inspired and provides a balm for the wacky, outlandish moments that have sprung up throughout 2020. De Cortes and Whack bounced ideas back and forth remotely to complete the video. The artist was inspired by Franklin, Sesame Street and a myriad of other previous works by globally renowned creators.

One clear message we took away from the video was De Corte’s thoughts on the core of it, “A door has opened and yet another door is closed.” She also shared, “We are ready to explore. We are ready to open another door, and another door, and another door.”
