During the pre-Grammy premiere ceremony, it was announced that Tyler, the Creator Best Rap Album for his sixth album CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST.

Tyler, the Creator is on a winning streak. During the pre-Grammy ceremony for tonight’s 64th Annual Grammy Awards, the rapper won his second Grammy ever for his sixth album CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST. The album was nominated in the Best Rap Album category alongside Nas (King’s Disease II), J. Cole (The Off-Season) and Kanye West (Donda).

While Tyler wasn’t at the pre-Grammy ceremony to accept the award, legendary producer Jimmy Jam accepted the Gramophone on his behalf. Tyler was also nominated for Best Melodic Rap Performance for “WusYaName” featuring Ty Dolla $ign and YoungBoy Never Broke Again, but the win went to Ye for “Hurricane”.

In 2020, the rapper won his first Best Rap Album Grammy for 2019’sĀ Igor. During the 2020 Grammys ceremony, Tyler also made his Grammy performance debut with a live rendition of “EARQUAKE” and “NEW MAGIC WAND.”

Although Tyler took the Grammy stage to accept his award in 2020, the rapper slammed National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences for putting him in the Best Rap Album category. Backstage, Tyler said he was “very grateful” for his win, but added that categorizing his music as rap is a “backhanded compliment.”

“It sucks that whenever we — and I mean guys that look like me — do anything that’s genre-bending orĀ that’s anythingĀ they always put it in a rap or urban category. I don’t like that ‘urban’ word — it’s just a politically correct way to say the n-word to me,” he said. “When I hear that, I’m just like why can’t we be in pop? Half of me feels like the rap nomination was just a backhanded compliment. Like, my little cousin wants to play the game. Let’s give him the unplugged controller so he can shut up and feel good about it — that’s what it felt like a bit.”
