To mark the five-year anniversary of her debut album Ctrl, SZA tweeted that she’ll be dropping unreleased material from 2017.

SZA fans won’t have to wait too much longer for new music. On Monday (June 7), the Grammy-winning vocalist went to Twitter and announced that upon the five-year anniversary of her debut album Ctrl on June 9, she’ll be releasing archival songs from 2017.

Since the release of Ctrl, SZA – whose legal name is Solána Imani Rowe – has not released a full-length follow-up, instead releasing singles “I Hate U,” “Good Days,” and “Hit Different” with Ty Dolla $ign, along with collaborations “Kiss Me More” with Doja Cat, “No Love” with Summer Walker and Cardi B, and “The Other Side” with Justin Timberlake.

During the 2022 Met Gala, SZA spoke with Vogue about getting closer to the release of her sophomore album. “[Now that the album] like ready to go, more than I’ve ever felt before. “So, this summer, it’ll be like a…it’ll be a SZA Summer,” she said.

In a recent interview with Finish Line’s Community Voices series, the vocalist also spoke about navigating the music industry while protecting her mental health.

“This is the most psychosis-inducing industry that I can think of,” she said. “There’s so much perception, there’s so much being perceived. There’s so much validation of self, [questioning] ‘what is the reason you’re doing this,’ and even if you find your reason, it’s hard to hold on to it.”

“So many times I’m like, ‘Damn, I’m about to go be a farmer. My contract is about to expire, I might as well be a farmer,’” she added. “Because the pressure of dropping another album, making sure my deals make sense […] building this life is way harder than abdicating my responsibility [as an artist].”

On Thursday, June 9th, SZA will chat with Nadeska Alexis on Apple Music about the five-year anniversary of Ctrl.
