Pusha T Provides an Update on the Madlib-Produced Album
During the inaugural episode of It’s Almost Dry Radio, Pusha T spoke about his plans for a Madlib-produced album, which was later scrapped.
Fresh off the release of It’s Almost Dry, Pusha T went to his new radio show It’s Almost Dry Radio on Amp to talk about his previous plans for a collaborative album with Madlib. During the inaugural episode, Push spoke with his manager Steven Victor and Noah Callahan-Bever of podcast Idea Generation about Kanye West contributing to his 2018 album Daytona, and why his album with Madlib was scrapped.
“I was definitely going to work with Madlib,” Push said. “I got some beats and they were actually chops from him. I just think he’s really dope at finding ill sounds and ill chops, and things of that nature. But at the same time, it was feeling like a beat tape situation. I felt like to step it up I had to be produced to step it up from Daytona.”
“When you think about Daytona, its just beats and hard raps. I wasn’t produced,” Push added. “The structure of Kanye West you know, taking these things out or whatever the case may be. Honestly, it was just that. It’s Almost Dry is an exercise, definitely on the Pharrell side, in being produced.”
Callahan-Bever went to Twitter to recap the podcast episode.
So I don’t know if I’m ready for radio, but I got @PUSHA_T to explain what happened to the Madlib produced album…

Push said he got sent a folder of dope loops from Madlib, kinda like, “do your thing!” But he felt like the only way to top Daytona was to allow himself to really be produced in a more hands on way, so he decided to go in a different direction (sitting with Ye and P) for this 1

According to Complex, during an AMA on Discord, Push confirmed that he and Madlib were “hard drive full of gems.”
In 2020, the rapper also spoke with KAZI Magazine about their collaboration.
“We’re taking our time. I’m crafting and writing to some of them,” he said. “That’s a bucket list thing for me. The fact that we’re in contact and everything is good, I see that happening. I can’t put a date on it, but I’m definitely on it.”
