A fifth installment of the ongoing series of vinyl boxsets culled from the innovative catalog of Fela Kuti is on the way.

Announced last week by Partisan Records, the 7xLP collection is limited to just 4,000 copies and will include titles co-curated by Kuti’s son, Femi, and Coldplay’s Chris Martin. The set features Why Black Man Dey Suffer (1971,) Noise For Vendor Mouth (1975,) Excuse O (1976,) Kalakuta Show (1976,) Ikoyi Blindness (1976,) Original Sufferhead (1982,) and Overtake Don Overtake Overtake (1989.) The boxset also features a grip of contextualizing bonus material, including a 20-page booklet with previously unseen photos of Kuti, stills taken from the 1982 documentary, Music is a Weapon, words from Femi and Martin, essays on each album by renowned Afrobeat historian and music journalist, Chris May, and an exclusive 16×24″ poster designed by Lemi Ghariokwu, the visual artist behind 29 of Fela’s album covers.

As a warm-up for the arrival of the set, Partisan has released an alternate extended version of “Original Sufferhead,” which you can hear below. The boxset, which is slated to arrive on December 10th, follows four previous curated collections of Fela’s work from Erykah Bady, Questlove, Brian Eno, and late collaborator, Ginger Baker.

Hear the expanded version of “Original Sufferhead” below and head over to the Okayplayer Shop to pre-order your copy of 7xLP collection of Fela Kuti albums.
