Nicki Minaj’s name will once again be tied up in the court system. According to TMZ on Monday (January 4), Nicki is being sued by a Queens rapper by the name of Brinx Billions, who claims the Pink Friday rapper ripped off his version of “Rich Sex” which was later used on her 2018 Queen album with a feature from Lil Wayne.
Billions — born Jawara Headley — says he played “Rich Sex” for Minaj at some point prior to 2016. Nicki reportedly gave him her stamp of approval and raved about the track while claiming it would be “extremely marketable and a global hit.”
According to the ASCAP database, Headley is a credited writer on Nicki’s track but he’s claiming to be the sole creator of “Rich Sex” in legal documents obtained by TMZ. He’s suing Nicki along with looping Young Money, Cash Money Records and Universal Music into the lawsuit for $200 million in damages.
The suit claims Nicki ripped him off on certain lyrics such as, “It ain’t such a thing as broke and handsome.” He also believes Nicki stole certain musical notes and rhythm from his version making them both too similar. Headley says he met the Young Money rapper in 2007 through MySpace.
The 38-year-old gave birth to her first child in September and revealed her son to the world at the top of 2021 with a photo dump of “Papa Bear” laced in designer toddler threads.
“#PapaBear thank you so very much for choosing me to be your mama,” she wrote. “Wishing you guys a happy & prosperous New Year. Thank you for your love & support throughout this journey. It’s meant so much to me. Becoming a mom is by far the most fulfilling job I’ve ever taken on. Sending love to all the superhero mothers out there. Big hugs to all the women who have been pregnant during this challenging time.”
