Kanye and André 3000’s Collaboration Gets a Second Life on Deluxe Edition of ‘DONDA’
The expanded version of Kanye West’s DONDA features a reworked sequence and five bonus songs.
It appears you won’t have to own Kanye West’s $200 stem player to hear the complete version of “Life of The Party.”
The previously leaked André 3000 collaboration is one of five bonus songs featured on the newly released deluxe edition of DONDA (which may have been treated to the oddest rollout of any form of the rapper’s new album.) It’s joined by the “Remote Control Pt. 2,” “Up From the Ashes,” “Never Abandon Your Family,” and “Keep My Spirit Alive Pt. 2,” on an entirely reworked sequence. Several of the added tracks appeared on previous versions of the album that were played at one of the three livestreamed listening events during a months-long release campaign for the perpetually-delayed 10th solo studio album from West.
“Life of The Party,” however, had a less conventional debut. The rare and deeply personal André 3000 performance was leaked by Drake in the days following the release of Certified Lover Boy during a guest mix for SiriusXM’s Sound 42. The leak was widely seen as another act of aggression during a particularly tense point in the very public feud between the rival rappers and was condemned by the OutKast rapper in a subsequent statement. “It’s unfortunate that it was released in this way and two artists that I love are going back and forth,” the rapper wrote after revealing the track was left off DONDA due to explicit language and West’s intention of keeping DONDA a “clean” album.
West did eventually release the track as an exclusive to his DONDA Stem Player device along with the Jesus is King outtake, “Up From The Ashes,” and a completed version of “Never Abandon Your Family.”
