On Friday, Certified Lover Boy dropped with features from Jay-Z, Rick Ross, Travis Scott, Giveon, Lil Baby, and Yebba.

Drake returns to release his sixth studio album Certified Lover Boy

The rollout has been going on for over a year and has consisted of “Laugh Now, Cry Later,” Scary Hours 2, Dark Lane Demo Tapes and more. If there’s one thing the Canadian rapper knows how to do, it’s keep the minds of his fans fixated on a forthcoming drop. On Monday, he unveiled the emoji cover art to the album and it was weird, but it’s on-brand for him. Today’s date also was included when the art was shared.

With all of that being said, it’s been clear for months that this album wasn’t going to be a quick drop-off. Recently, a cryptic SportsCenter takeover alluded to the release of it, and yesterday the album’s features were shared via billboards in the hometowns of each artist. JAY-Z, Project Pat, Kid Cudi, Rick Ross, Travis Scott, Young Thug, Future, Ty Dolla $ign, 21 Savage, Lil Baby, Lil Durk, Yebba, and Giveon made the cut.

Additional credits on the album include a monologue by Nicki Minaj, there are also samples of the Beatles, Notorious B.I.G., and Montell Jordan. Masego receives a production credit on the album intro “Champagne Poetry.” On “TSU,” R. Kelly who’s in an ongoing court battle is credited as a writer alongside Justin Timberlake and Timbaland (strange). N Sync’s cover of Christopher Cross’ “Sailing” is sampled on “TSU.” Noah “40” Shebib, Oliver El-Khatib, Noel Cadastre and Drake exec produced CLB

The release has melancholy energy throughout just in time for cuffing season. The state of the affairs of the world isn’t important when Drake decides to unleash his emotional side. A lot of CLB feels like an evolved version of Heartbreak Drake and Comeback Season

We’ll let you decide if it’s a Certified Classic.
