On new Gucci Mane track “Dissin the Dead,” the Atlanta emcee calls out other rappers for speaking ill of deceased artists in their music.

Gucci Mane is speaking out against “Dissin the Dead.” On his new track of the same title, the Atlanta emcee urges other rappers to refrain from the trend of disrespecting dead enemies, specifically fallen rappers. The song, which released on Wednesday (July 27) is accompanied by a music video filmed by Omar the Director, where Gucci wears hoodies with messages “R.I.P. Trouble” and “Long Live Dolph.” The video arrived on what would’ve been Young Dolph‘s 37th birthday.

“I know my tongue is a sword, I know I should be more careful with shit that I said/I feel like I started a trend that’s never gon’ stop, they gon’ keep dissing the dead/None of this shit no pretend, this shit so for real, a nigga get shot in the head/Young nigga wicked on pills and going on drills, we need to stop dissing the dead,” Gucci raps on the chorus.

Apparently, Gucci is changing his ways after having a history of speaking ill of dead people in his older music. Once having a long-running feud with Jeezy – which almost turned fatal in 2005 – Guwop performed diss song  “The Truth” during his 2020 Verzuz with Jeezy, the song being aimed at Jeezy’s friend Pookie Loc, who was allegedly killed in self-defense during the 2005 shooting. Gucci referred to Pookie Loc again in his “Rumors” collaboration with Lil Durk, but put the disrespect in the grave on “Dissin the Dead” where he rapped, “I’m the one put your boy name on a stone/I dissed the dead and I knew it was wrong.”
