DOMi and JD Beck Help an Old Jazz Legend Get New Ears in Cameo-Filled “Smile” Video
Anderson .Paak, Thundercat, and Mac DeMarco appear in the video for the first single off the upcoming debut album from DOMi and JD Beck.
After years of releasing viral and virtuosic videos of their performances, DOMi and JD Beck have officially launched the campaign for their debut album.
Today, the duo dropped a quirky, tender, and cameo-filled clip for the project’s first single, “Smile.” Directed by Anderson .Paak, the video centers on the group’s efforts to cheer up an aging, chain-smoking, and glue-sniffing jazz legend who lost his ears (played by a prosthetically-enhanced Mac DeMarco.)
.Paak doubles as a guest star, appearing with Thundercat in the video. The NxWorries singer is also playing an integral part in the group’s debut, signing them as the first artists under his new APESHIT imprint, which will release the still-untitled album later this year in partnership with legendary jazz banner, Blue Note Records. They also worked together on the Silk Sonic single, “Skate, last year.
Ahead of the album’s release, you can catch the group live and direct at the Blue Note Jazz Club in NYC on May 31st and June 1st or at The Blue Note Jazz Festival in Napa Vallet on July 30th.
