While celebrating the 50th birthday of The Notorious B.I.G. on Twitter Spaces, Diddy commended JAY-Z as Biggie and 2Pac’s successor.

The 50th birthday celebration of The Notorious B.I.G. was monumental in New York City and Twitter Spaces. Over the weekend, Tidal hosted Twitter Spaces event ‘A Toast to Big’ where Diddy and JAY-Z hopped on to commend the late rapper. During the chat, thousands of Twitter users listened to Biggie’s collaborators, peers and friends discuss the rapper’s legacy.

During a segment of the discussion, JAY-Z shared that the untimely deaths of Biggie and his contemporary 2Pac were large shoes to fill. “That’s a big void,” JAY-Z said, adding, “Others stepped in to fill it as well, not just myself.”

Diddy stepped in to give Hov his flowers. “You filled them shoes, though. You came in and we definitely give thanks,” Diddy said. “You definitely came, and I just know how much Big really looked up to Jay. They looked up to each other. That is crazy you had to step into the shoes of two people. That’s all it was was those two people. They had things on lock.”

Prior to the deaths of Biggie and 2Pac, Jay-Z released his debut album Reasonable Doubt in 1996, featuring Biggie collaboration “Brooklyn’s Finest.” Hov has continued to reference Biggie, last on “Neck & Wrist” with Pusha T, where he name-dropped their supergroup The Commission that never materialized. Following 2Pac and Biggie’s deaths in 1996 and 1997, respectively, JAY-Z released In My Lifetime, Vol. 1 in November 1997.

“Hov was coming,” Diddy explained in Twitter Spaces, “but it was like these two cats was just so big… I think Hov kept the art of it going and took where they was at and took it even higher.”
