South African rapper AKA, one of the more famous non-American rappers in the world, was shot and killed today in a drive-by shooting outside of a nightclub in the South African city of Durban.

The 35-year-old, born Kiernan Forbes, was one of two men murdered in the incident.

“I can confirm that two men were killed and one of them is a well-known rapper. Police will not be releasing any names of the victims yet until a full investigation is completed,”said  law enforcement spokesperson Robert Netshiunda.

AKA had been scheduled to perform shortly after he was shot.
