Artists copying popular styles is no new phenomenon, but A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie thinks it’s getting out of hand. The Atlantic Records rapper expressed his frustration with his peers Twitter on Saturday (February 8), chastising them for using his musical blueprint.

“Iight bet. Keep on tryna sound like me without showing love and ima start to sue ya mf’s,” he wrote. “Fr tho this shit is getting outta hand I’m not tryna knock nobody hustle I’m just getting sick of the craft ya bringing to the table. Making this shit boring.”

A Boogie didn’t call out any specific artists, but the proliferation of melodic styles in Hip Hop casts a wide net in terms of potential offenders. One could argue his complaint doesn’t have much merit though considering he’s not the originator of the style either.

The Bronx-bred artist has used the formula effectively in his career though, earning his first No. 1 album last year. A Boogie is currently prepping for the release of his next LP, Artist 2.0, which he’s hinted will drop on Valentine’s Day (February 14).
