Melbourne-based artist Nardia has released her latest single, “Is It You,” the first from her upcoming album Own Every Scar. The track offers a stripped-back, introspective sound that blends elements of soul, blues, and contemporary jazz, showcasing a more vulnerable and personal side of the singer-songwriter’s evolving artistry.
“Is It You” was co-written with Melbourne musician and producer Isaac Barter. The two collaborated closely on the song’s structure and emotional tone, crafting a piece that explores themes of longing, uncertainty, and emotional reckoning. “I wrote this song when I was in a space of total surrender,” Nardia explains. “I’d let go of the constant pressure to be something for everyone and just sat with the ache of not knowing what I was actually looking for.”
The track marks a stylistic shift for Nardia, who has previously fronted the funk-soul band Rambal and performed across Australia and internationally. Where her past work leaned into bold brass sections and high-energy arrangements, “Is It You” is more subdued, relying on minimal instrumentation and subtle textures to support her expressive vocal performance.
The upcoming album Own Every Scar, recorded across studios in Memphis and Nashville, represents a significant chapter in Nardia’s solo career. Drawing influence from the musical history of both cities, the album is expected to explore deeper themes of identity, resilience, and emotional transparency.
Nardia’s ability to blend genres while staying rooted in soul traditions continues to earn her a reputation as one of Melbourne’s most versatile voices. With “Is It You,” she takes a step further into emotionally honest songwriting, offering listeners a raw and resonant preview of what’s to come.
