Jermaine Dupri often likes to compare today’s music with yesteryear’s.

His most recent comments about music from back in the day came this week on Instagram Live.

The So So Def founder said that today’s R&B music can’t compete with ’90s R&B, because today’s singers aren’t groomed musically in church.

Then in another part of the Live session, he defended R. Kelly’s music, despite the singer being convicted of multiple sex crimes.

“R. Kelly put the ‘R’ in R&B,” said Dupri. “We gotta stop playing around. I get it. I understand. I’m not here to talk about none of that bullsh*t he’s involved with. He is the R in R&B. Hands down.”

In these days of everyday outrage and cancellation, do you think it’s smart for a celebrity to speak highly of R. Kelly?
