J.I.D has released new single “2007”  featuring his father, Carl Louis Route Jr., J. Cole and Dreamville Records president Ibrahim “Ib” Hamad.

It’s a family affair on new J.I.D single “2007.” On Thursday night (August 18), the Dreamville Records rapper shared that the track – featuring his father Carl Louis Route Jr., J. Cole and Dreamville Records president Ibrahim “Ib” Hamad – was supposed to be the outro on his third album, The Forever Story. Instead, the track was cut from the album due to clearance issues. The Atlanta rapper released “2007” as a visualizer, also giving a statement on the surprise cut. Prior to “2007,” J.I.D, whose real name is Destin Choice Route, treated fans to “Dance Now” with Kenny Mason.

“As we draw near to The Forever Story, I wanna give insight on the process of trying to put together a solid body of work,” he wrote. “Initially I wanted to create an album that serves as an origin story and speaks to who I am and what I came from. This song has been in the works for 2 years and was supposed to be the outro on the album. Things didn’t work out but this story is too pertinent to the picture we want to paint. This has been the heaviest project for me to make and I take pride in my vulnerability that came in the midst of creation.”

Co-produced by Latrell James, Groove, and Christo, “2007” came just in time for the birthday of J.I.D’s father.

Following his 2018 album DiCaprio 2, J.I.D’s forthcoming album The Forever Story is slated to arrive on August 26.
