Sampling Rick James’ 1981 hit “Super Freak,” Nicki Minaj has released her long-awaited new single “Super Freaky Girl.”

Nicki Minaj dives into her ‘freaky’ side on new single “Super Freaky Girl.” The song, which samples 1981 Rick James hit “Super Freak” is the rapper’s latest single since being featured on Fivio Foreign‘s “We Go Up” in March.

“Super Freaky Girl” comes less than a week after Minaj appeared as part of the Young Money Reunion Concert with Drake and Lil Wayne during October World Weekend in Toronto. On Thursday (August 11), Minaj also returned to Queen Radio on Amazon’s new live radio platform Amp, last releasing the seventeenth episode on Apple Music in February 2020.

On August 28, Minaj will be the newest recipient of the MTV VMA Video Vanguard Award, also performing live at the awards ceremony for the first time since 2018. The rapper currently holds five MTV VMA awards, winning her first Moon Person award for Best Hip-Hop Video “Super Bass” in 2011.

“Nicki has broken barriers for women in hip-hop with her versatility and creative artistry,” said Bruce Gillmer, chief content officer of music at Paramount+ and president of music, music talent, programming and events at Paramount. “She has shifted the music industry and cemented her status as a global superstar with her crossover appeal, genre-defying style and continuing to be unapologetically ‘Nicki’.”

With the “Super Freaky Girl” rapper making a grand return to music, the Barbz can also anticipate Minaj’s six-part documentary series Nicki, expected to release later this year.
