Lil Nas X snubs BET for not receiving a 2022 BET Awards nomination on new single “Late to Da Party” featuring YoungBoy Never Broke Again.

Lil Nas X isn’t letting up on BET. After weeks of teasing a new single, the 23-year-old rapper has released new single “Late to Da Party,” his first collaboration with YoungBoy Never Broke Again. The track dropped on Friday (June 24) morning ahead of Sunday’s 2022 BET Awards ceremony, but it’s uncertain whether Lil Nas X – real name Montero Lamar Hill – will make an appearance.

Prior to the song’s release, LNX released a promo for “Late to Da Party,” featuring a Star Wars-styled cryptic message intended for BET.

“NBA YOUNGBOY is on house arrest, trapped on the isolated planet HATU. The Brutal Empire of Terror (BET) has betrayed LIL NAS X, turning their back on him after using him for clout.” It continues, “With the music industry in turmoil, the galaxy is looking for a hero. NAS must use the ancient power of r EDITING to free YB and defeat the evil BET before time runs out…”

In the music video, YoungBoy Never Broke Again goes along for a ride with LNX before he crashes BET Awards.

Earlier this month, the rapper called out the 2022 BET Awards on Twitter for being offered an “an outstanding zero nominations.”

“I just feel like black gay ppl have to fight to be seen in this world and even when we make it to the top mfs try to pretend we are invisible,” he wrote.

The network responded with a statement on June 7, saying, “We love Lil Nas X. He was nominated for a best new artist BET Award in 2020, and we proudly showcased his extraordinary talent and creativity on the show twice: He performed ‘Old Town Road’ with Billy Ray Cyrus at BET Awards 2019 and his BET Awards 2021 performance was a highlight of our show. No one cheered louder that night than BET.”
