Just Blaze announced that next month he’ll face-off with Jake One as part of Gene Brown’s “Beat Down” series in Charlotte.

Next month, Just Blaze and Jake One will be squaring off in a beat battle – but it isn’t VERZUZ. On May 14th, the legendary producers will be taking their talents to Crown Station Coffee House & Pub in Charlotte, North Carolina, where they’ll duke it out in Gene Brown’s “Beatdown” series.

Blaze announced the beat battle on Instagram, prematurely giving his opponent the crown.

“I shall accept this L gracefully. But I’m going down fighting!!!” he wrote.

“Taking this L as a sacrifice for hip hop,” Jake One responded, giving Blaze his flowers.

During the event, a production battle between Vitamin D and The Soul Council’s Sndtrak will also take place, along with performances from J Scienide, Kev Brown, DJ Static, DJ Justice and DJ Wizdom Kenyatta.

The event won’t be Blaze’s first beat battle – in 2017, he and Swizz Beatz held an impromptu beat competition in New York City for nearly three hours.

Blaze spoke with HipHopDX about the experience, which occurred three years prior to VERZUZ.

“I’m not a competitive person like that,” Blaze said. “And I know it’s not all about competition. But for example, when me and Swizz did it, it was actually for my Netflix documentary Rapture that came out a couple of years ago. We shot that as a scene for that, and then we had the idea to put it on IG Live while we were doing it. And it turned into what it turned into. And it was a great night for everybody.

Tickets for The Gene Brown Beatdown are available now.
