Summer of Soul earns Questlove the sixth Grammy of his career.

Questlove and the team behind Summer of Soul are two-for-two at this year’s major award shows. A week after winning an Oscar for “Best Documentary Feature,” the movie took home a Grammy for “Best Music Film” at tonight’s ceremony. The category was called during the untelevised segment of the 64th-annual Grammy Awards (along with the vast majority of tonight’s awards.)

Questlove took the stage with Summer of Soul producers Joseph Patel, David Dinerstein, and Robert Fyvolent, to accept the award. During his speech, the director thanked the full roster of performers featured in the film. It marked Questlove’s sixth win at The Grammys and his first since 2016, when the drummer, producer, bandleader, and now, award-winning director, walked away with the statue for “Best Musical Theater Album” for his work on Hamilton.

Summer of Soul premiered at Sundance Film Festival in 2021, commencing a clean sweep of the awards circuit with both Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award. The documentary centers on the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival, restoring 50-year-old footage and audio of performances from Stevie Wonder, The Staples Singers, Sly & The Family Stone, Nina Simone, B.B. King, The 5th Dimension, Ray Barretto, David Ruffin, The Chambers Brothers, The Edwin Hawkins Singers, and Abby Lincoln with Max Roach.
