After hosting a surprise livestream yesterday night in anticipation of his fifth album Dawn FM, “new sonic universe” from The Weeknd has arrived.

A brand new dawn is here. On his fifth album, Dawn FMThe Weeknd hosts a purgatory dance party with the assistance of guest DJ Jim Carrey. The album comes following a 103.5 Dawn FM livestream that the singer hosted Thursday evening on Twitch in partnership with Amazon Music. Appearing in an elevated DJ booth, The Weeknd wore makeup that made him look like an older version of himself, similar to promotional images for Dawn FM.

“Yes, it’s the name of The Weeknd’s new album – the first major arrival of 2022 – but also the faux radio station that will “guide you into the light … until you’re fully engulfed,” The Weeknd said during the livestream.

Although the experience has ended, The Weeknd fans still have time to purchase exclusive event merch on his website.

Physical copies of Dawn FM are also available for preorder, from vinyl, cassette and CD formats. The Dawn FM collection also includes XO apparel spanning hoodies, t-shirts, sweaters and trucker hats with chrome and vaporwave-style typography.

In a now-deleted tweet, the singer replied to a fan about Dawn FM physical CD copies not being available during release week.

“This doesn’t matter to me. what matters is getting to experience the album together with the fans during these times.”

Dawn FM features contributions from Tyler, the Creator, Oneohtrix Point Never, Max Martin, Calvin Harris and Quincy Jones, who makes an appearance on interlude “A Tale By Quincy”. Uncut Gems co-director Josh Safdie also appears on the album, last collaborating with The Weeknd in the 2019 crime thriller film.

Carrey appears on the album closer, “Phantom Regret,” where he recites a poem that slyly references Prince.

“If pain’s living on when your body’s long gone, and your phantom regret hasn’t let it go yet, you may not have died in the way that you must. All specters are haunted by their own lack of trust. When you’re all out of time, there’s nothing but space. No hunting, no gathering, no nations, no race. And heaven is closer than those tears on your face. When the purple rain falls, we are all bathed in its grace.”

Dawn FM comes ahead of The Idol, The Weeknd’s first co-created hour-long drama series that will debut on HBO. The purgatory party will also be continued this summer during the singer’s After Hours tour.
