Earl Sweatshirt reunites with Armand Hammer on the latest single from his new album, SICK!.

On the heels of a year filled with guest appearances and one-offs, Earl Sweatshirt has announced his next project will arrive at the top of 2022.

Out on January 22nd via the rapper’s Tan Cressida imprint, SICK! will mark Earl’s first album since 2019’s FEET OF CLAY. According to a statement from the rapper, the 10-track project was recorded during and in response to the pandemic. “SICK is my humble offering of 10 songs recorded in the wake of the worldwide coronavirus pandemic and its subsequent lockdowns. Before the virus I had been working on an album I named after a book I used to read with my mother (‘The People Could Fly’). Once the lockdowns hit, people couldn’t fly anymore. A wise man said art imitates life. People were sick. The People were angry and isolated and restless. I leaned into the chaos cause it was apparent that it wasn’t going anywhere. these songs are what happened when I would come up for air. Peace and love to Zelooperz the enigma, The Armand Hammer, and my good friends Alchemist and Black Noi$e. Peace and love to u,” Earl says in a press release.

The album was announced with the release of a slow-burning new single in “Tabula Rasa,” which features Armand Hammer, as well as production from Theravada and Rob Chambers. In an accompanying video, a grainy lens casually trails Earl and crew through Alchemist’s studio. On Instagram, Alc pulled the curtain off the project’s artwork and explained how SICK! took shape over the last few years. “The album originally had a different name and was done, but of course, we kept the light on in the kitchen, this fool broke some type of barrier and we made a whole new elevated batch,” the producer wrote (see below.)

“Tabula Rasa” follows the release of the nostalgic “2010,” which dropped a few weeks back. However, it’s unclear whether that song will appear on the new project.
