Even with 2020 being the year of the unknown, rappers improvised to still provide another 365 days of solid musical output. The Recording Industry Association of America released their Year-End Best of list for 2020 on Monday (December 21) and Hip Hop exerted its dominance racking up plaques.

Lil Baby’s multi-platinum My Turn album was dubbed the RIAA’s Top Album while Future and Drake’s “Life Is Good” took home Top Single honors. The dynamic Drizzy and Super collab is now certified 7x-platinum and has a chance at diamond status.

There were only 21 albums to be certified platinum that were released in 2020. A few notables in the Hip Hop sphere include Future’s High Off Life, Polo G’s The GOAT, Lil Uzi Vert’s Eternal Atake and Pop Smoke’s posthumous Shoot For The Stars Aim For The Moon.

Hip Hop stayed in constant rotation on mainstream radio this year as well. Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s raunchy “WAP” anthem is already 3x-platinum while Jack Harlow’s breakout smash “WHATS POPPIN” hit 4x-platinum earlier in December.

24kGoldn left his mark on 2020 by notching his first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with the multi-platinum “Mood” featuring iann dior.

Another one of the 123 songs to earn a gold or platinum was song of the summer candidate “We Paid,” which saw Lil Baby team up with his 4PF protege to connect Atlanta and Detroit. Baby’s going to need a separate trophy room in his house to store his hardware, as he saw nine tracks in total rack up plaques for 2020.
