YNW Melly will be home soon, if he has any say in it.

The Florida rapper, who is currently incarcerated awaiting trial for a 2018 double murder, told Akademiks that he believes that he’ll be released from jail this year and is adamant about his release.

“He confidently told me “I’m coming home 2020″,” Akademiks wrote on Twitter.

The culture commentator added that Melly made a full album while locked up and can’t wait to share it with the world.

“Most of his fans favorite songs, he made in jail so he’s used 2 it,” Akademiks said.

Melly has been jailed in Broward County since his arrest in February 2019 in connection with the murders of YNW Juvy, real name Christopher Thomas and YNW Sakchaser, real name Anthony Williams. The rapper has attempted on numerous occasions to obtain a conditional release from jail after he tested positive for COVID-19 in April. He was allegedly only given Gatorade and Tylenol to combat the virus.

His lawyer, Bradford Cohen, filed a request for Melly to be released from jail and placed on house arrest due to the pandemic and Broward County jail’s inadequate treatment of Melly.

“The jails and prisons are not prepared to handle this crisis,” Cohen wrote. “Rules on alcohol based hand sanitizer and wipes must be lifted at a bare min. Inmates are passing trays, jail phones and shared items that are not sanitized when passed between inmates.”

Melly’s appeal was denied. He later sent word to Kanye West to have the God’s County artist use his powers to help spring him free but to no avail.

YNW Melly’s Murder Case Co-Defendant Granted $75K Bond

In May, Melly’s co-defendant in the murders of Juvy and Sakchaser, YNW Bortlen, was released from jail on bond. Bortlen’s lawyer, John M. Phillips confirmed that while his client was to be placed on house arrest, Melly would remain behind bars until trial.

Jamell Demons aka @YNWMelly’s co-defendant Cortlen Henry aka @YNWBortlen was granted bond and house arrest. Melly remains in jail until trial,” Phillips wrote. “The victim’s family understands the release but does not agree with it. They hope for full justice and safety of all witnesses.”
