Shaolin and Detroit connect on a potent new blend.

A new mash-up project from DJayTiger stitches a set of bars from the Wu-Tang Clan into some timeless and rare J Dilla beats.

Riffing off a Wu-Tang classic, the producer’s new mixtape is aptly titled, Dilla Rules Everything Around Me (aka D.R.E.A.M.) It features recalibrated takes on a number of Wu-Tang hits, spanning group albums and material from the respective solo catalogs of Wu-Tang members, providing a rugged and raw blend of Shaolin and Detroit. Unlike most mash-ups (pairing disparate artists with no collaborative history,) Jay Dee was very much on the radar of Wu-Tang during his career and even after his death. Ghostface Killah‘s 2006 album, Fishscale, featured a pair of the producer’s beats. Raekwon‘s 2009 sequel to Only Built 4 Cuban Linx included three beats from the Soulquarian producer. And the late Ol Dirty Bastard was a guest on the last Slum Village’s 2003 album, Detroit Deli.

Dilla Rules Everything Around Me is just the latest tape from DJayTiger. Prior outings from the producer have threaded DJ Premier’s finest with verses from the late Nipsey Hussle, blasted James Brown’s iconic funk vamps with the burly cinematics of The Notorious B.I.G., and that barely scratches the surface. Head over to the Full Blast Radio Bandcamp page to comb through the archives and keep up with the drops.

In related J Dilla news, the producer’s 2001 solo debut, Welcome 2 Detroit, is getting a 12-disc 20th-anniversary boxset from BBE, featuring an expanded edition of the album with bonus tracks pressed to 45s.

Hear Wu-Tang Clan blaze a batch of J Dilla beats on the Dilla Rules Everything Around Me mash-up tape below. Hold tight for the next blend to surface. Shouldn’t be too long now.
