The 2021 Grammy Award nominations arrived on Tuesday (November 24) during a live announcement hosted on the official Grammy website. CBS is expected to air the annual ceremony from Los Angeles on January 31, although the the format of the show has yet to be announced.
Considering the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, an audience will be unlikely. In a September interview with Variety, Recording Academy interim president Harvey Mason Jr. said the awards show was “looking toward a completely live event at the Staples Center with a limited number of attendees.” But with the recent explosion in coronavirus cases, Mason said the show would consider adding “virtual elements and live performances” from various locations.
Megan Thee Stallion, who’s already having a stellar year, reeled in four Grammy nods in the Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song, Best New Artist and Record of the Year categories. Meanwhile, Roddy Ricch grabbed nominations for “The Box” in Best Rap Song, Song of the Year and Best Melodic Rap Performance categories.
The late Pop Smoke, Doja Cat, Chika, D Smoke, Kaytranada, Post Malone, DaBaby, H.E.R. and Thundercat are among the many other artists who might be taking a gilded trophy home next year. Check out the list of nominees below.
