Syd drops her sophomore album, ‘Broken Hearts Club’, her first release in five years with features from Lucky Daye, Smino and Kehlani.

It’s Syd‘s turn. On Friday, the vocalist released her sophomore full-length album, Broken Hearts Club. The album features Lucky Daye (“CYBAH”), Smino (“Right Track”) and Kehlani (“Out Loud”) with production from Steve Lacy, Rodney Jerkins, Nick Green and more.

In a new interview with Hypebeast, Syd revealed that her “CYBAH” collaboration with Lucky Daye stemmed from her mom being a fan of the recent Grammy winner, who nabbed Best Progressive R&B Album for his 2021 EP Table for Two last Sunday. Syd shared that Daye previously tried to connect with The Internet on Instagram, but the DM was left unopened because the band doesn’t check their page.

“I’d heard a single or two, but my mom was actually the one who was like, ‘Yo, here are the songs from his last album that I love the most, and that I think you’ll love the most. Please work with him for your next project,” Syd said.

Prior to “CYBAH”, Syd released singles “Missing Out”, “Right Track” featuring Smino and “Fast Car”.

“The album is about a relationship I had that ended in my first real broken heart,” Syd said in a statement about Broken Hearts Club. “It almost felt like I joined a club because all of my friends went through similar experiences. It was like a rite of passage. I started writing the album on the relationship when I was in love. You’re really getting the whole journey from the beginning to the end. I want people to find it beautiful. It’s super vulnerable, sentimental, and it’s soft. There’s touching moments and a couple of dark moments.”

Beginning April 27th, Syd will embark on her 23-date Broken Hearts Club with Destin Conrad.
