J.Cole has returned with The Off-Season, his first new solo album in three years.

After weeks of teasing a new album, J.Cole has dropped The Off-Season, his first solo album since KOD in 2018.

The album features 12 tracks and, for the first time in three album, features. On the new album you hear from Cam’ron, 21 Savage, Lil Baby, and more. Legendary producers like Timbaland, T-Minus, Jake One, and DJ Dahi all earned placements on the project.

Toronto producer Boi-1da, known for his work with Drake, Rihanna, and more, handles the albums intro and closing tracks, while fellow Toronto native Maneesh also appears on the production credits. This is a different move for J. Cole, who usually likes to keep his production in-house.

The first song to be released from the album was “i n t e r l u d e.” On that song, J. Cole honors Nipsey Hussle and Pimp C. Leading up to the release of  The Off-Season, J. Cole covered Slam magazine, where he talked about his new album and potentially retiring. He told the publication:

The Off-Season symbolizes the work that it takes to get to the highest height. The Off-Season represents the many hours and months and years it took to get to top form… I’m doing all this work to be at peace with, If I never did another album, I’m cool. That’s the reason for all of this, so I know that I put everything on the table. I left everything on the table.”
