Rick Ross once said he wouldn’t sign any women to his Maybach Music Group imprint because he’d “have to fuck a couple times.” Although he issued an apology the next day (or, at least his team did), the damage was done and women have continued to look at him sideways ever since.

On Friday (September 25), Rozay attempted to shame Tory Lanez for dropping the surprise DAYSTAR album and using it as a vehicle to defend himself in the Megan Thee Stallion shooting incident. As Ross spoke, he advocated for Black women and chided Lanez for profiting off the situation — all while promoting his Belaire champagne.

“Tory Lanez, poor decision brother dropping that project,” he said. “This is out of respect for Breonna Taylor, just out of respect for Breonna Taylor, brother. You gotta respect these sisters. That ain’t how you address the accusations. That was a poor choice, homie. You ain’t get no money off that shit.”

Profiting off someone else’s drama isn’t anything new for Ross. Earlier this year, he also hopped in the middle of the Jada Pinkett and Will Smith “entanglement” fiasco earlier this year and wound up on a song with Pinkett’s ex-lover August Alsina, the aptly titled “Entanglements.”

Meanwhile, Lanez is already facing a healthy amount of backlash for the stunt. On Thursday (September 24), he tweeted out an announcement after months of silence and it sounded like he was possibly going to address the Megan incident on Instagram Live.

“To my fans … I’m sorry for my silence,” he tweeted. “but respectfully .. I got time today …… 9 PM PST .”

When the magic hour of 9 p.m. PST/12 a.m. EST arrived, Lanez wasn’t anywhere to be found on Instagram Live. Instead, he unleashed a 17-track album solely dedicated to clearing his name.

On the album opener “Money Over Fallouts,” Lanez wastes no time claiming his innocence.

“Can’t cry now, I’m gonna laugh later,” he raps. “Girl you had the nerve to write that statement on that affidavit, knowing I don’t do it/But I’m coming at my truest, tryin’ to keep this shit 200 with ya, shorty/I can’t prove it but them people in yo’ ear/They the true ones that I feel that really got you thinking Tory Lanez would do you in for real.”

The Los Angeles Police Department reportedly opened an investigation into Lanez’s possible involvement in July.
