Rapsody has returned with a surprise single called “12 Problems,” which plays off JAY-Z’s 2003 single “99 Problems.”

The Snow Hill, North Carolina native made the announcement via Twitter on Thursday (September 17) and revealed part of the proceeds are going to a good cause.

“My new single, ’12 Problems’ is out now and a part of ‘Reprise’ – a musical initiative uniting artists in protest against social injustice,” she wrote. “A portion of proceeds will support organizations fighting these social injustices.”

Rapsody has been laying relatively low since having to hit the pause button on her Black Woman Created This Tour with Sa-Roc in February.

The Roc Nation spitter recently contributed vocals to Public Enemy’s “Fight The Power” remix alongside Chuck D, Flavor Flav, DJ Lord, Nas, Black Thought, Questlove, YG and Enemy Radio’s Jahi. A video for the song opened up the 2020 BET Awards in June.

Earlier this summer, Rapsody, Common, MC Lyte, Mysonne and Jada Pinkett Smith flew to the Kentucky State Capitol in Frankfort to attend a rally for Breonna Taylor, the 26-year-old Louisville EMT who was killed by police. She also briefly popped up in Sa-Roc’s video “Deliverance” last month.

Rap released the HipHopDX perfectly-rated EVE album in 2019, which explored the many Black women who’ve influenced Rapsody throughout her life. It served as the follow-up to the Grammy Award-nominated project Laila’s Wisdom, her sophomore studio album. The 37-year-old is reportedly working on an EVE counterpart, the aptly titled ADAM.
