Chuck D has teamed up with PUMA for a Public Enemy sneaker and clothing collaboration. The legendary frontman revealed the line during NBA All-Star weekend with several social media posts. Although the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer admits he’s not necessarily a sneaker head, evidently this was an opportunity he couldn’t pass up.
On Saturday (February 15), Chuck shared a photo of the red, white and black shoe that honors Public Enemy’s seminal album Fear Of A Black Planet, which turns 30 on April 10.
“Not even a KickHed however in the Hiphop style game the logo post college I graphed debuts in Chicago THIS @NBA AllStarWeekend,” he wrote on Twitter. “I wore Clydes in 1978 as a HS senior. Here’s the kickoff @PUMAHoops 2020 I’ll wear on stage and toss to crowds @PublicEnemyFTP.”

Chuck also shared the red and white high top version while revealing he owns less than 10 pairs of shoes.
“I wear one pair of kicks at a time … have no more than 5-7 pair and I work stages across the planet,” he tweeted. “But upon hearing how some folk got over 100 pair and sneaker rooms let’s get busy on designing.”

PUMA also collaborated with Def Jam Recordings, Public Enemy’s former label.
Both of the collaborative collections will focus on the classic low-top Clyde as well as the relaunched Sky LX. Redesigned as lifestyle shoes for today, the PUMA x Def Jam Sky LX ($140) and PUMA x Def Jam Clyde ($90) commemorate PUMA and Def Jam’s place in Hip Hop history.
Meanwhile, the two designs in the PUMA x Public Enemy collection will be available this spring. Select styles from both collections were available in limited releases at the pop-up during All-Star Weekend in Chicago. The two designs in the PUMA x Def Jam collection are in stores and online here.
