Novice pilots occasionally experience a disorienting phenomenon when entering thick cloud cover for the first time. Lacking visual cues, they begin to doubt their internal instruments, relying instead on flawed sensory interpretations. As they make small, misguided adjustments, they find themselves flying in a completely different orientation than they intended once they finally break through the clouds. Learning to navigate the sonic landscape of Truth Ugly requires a similar surrender to the unknown.

The eight-track project serves as a high-stakes convergence of distinct creative forces. It features the experimental veteran doseone—who has been remarkably prolific this autumn—alongside the production prowess of steel tipped dove. The latter has already cemented his status this year with standout contributions to acclaimed records from Serengeti and Another Planet, while also maintaining a busy schedule of upcoming projects. At the center of this storm is Fatboi Sharif, a New Jersey artist who has rapidly solidified his reputation as a vital voice in the New York underground scene. Sharif possesses a rare ability to pivot between vastly different stylistic modes while maintaining a singular, heavy gravitational pull throughout his work.
