According to DJ Cutmaster Swiff, Prince called André 3000 after Outkast did the first weekend of Coachella.

Months after Outkast headlined Coachella in 2014, André 3000 spoke about the duo’s first weekend performance and how rusty he felt the show was. Well, turns out that the late Prince had a hand in helping him get ready for their second weekend performance.

Cutmaster Swiff, Outkast’s DJ, recently spoke with Revolt TV about how 3000 was nervous about the duo’s return to the big stage.

“Coachella was the one festival we never did as Outkast or as headliners. Dre was nervous about it because he hadn’t been on stage [in a while], so he felt rusty,” Swiff said, before adding that the group had rehearsed a lot prior to their Coachella debut. “…After that first performance and the reviews came out, Dre was feeling kinda crazy because he was like, ‘I didn’t want to wear the wig or the outfit.’ I was like, ‘Nigga, that’s what they want to see.’”

According to Swiff, 3000 then received a call from Prince, who gave him advice for his next Coachella performance that following weekend.

class=”c-entry-sidebar”>”Prince called Dre and kinda gave him the business like, ‘Nigga, you said you were going to do the show and you committed to it, so you have to go in and give your all,’” he recalled. “Dre was like, ‘Nigga, this Prince.’ The next week, he came out with the wig and all of the outfits.”

When 3000 had spoken out on Outkast’s first Coachella performance, he noted that Prince was present during the show, and how that added to the nervousness he was already feeling.

“A few hours before the Coachella show, I get a message that Prince and Paul McCartney are going to be there. My spirit is not right, and idols are standing side-stage, so as the show started, I’m bummed. This is horrible. In my mind I was already gone to my hotel room halfway through,” he said at the time in an interview with the New York Times.

In related news, 3000 has shared that the final song he would want to hear before he passes is Prince’s “Sometimes it Snows in April.”
