Noname has taken down her tweet comparing Beyoncé to civil rights activist Angela Davis.

In the post originally shared on Wednesday (June 24), the Chicago rhymer said she wished Davis got the same love as the global superstar – which many found to be an invalid comparison. Seemingly seeing the criticism, Noname initially doubled down on her sentiments.

“It’s cool seeing all the Angela Davis threads denouncing the need for idol worship and highlighting how celebrity is a capitalist project which Dr. Davis is fundamentally against,” she wrote in a since-deleted tweet. “big facts. I still wish the world stopped and listened when she spoke the way it does for others.”

The removal follows Noname’s apology for causing “distraction” by releasing “Song 33,” her rebuttal to J. Cole’s polarizing track “Snow On Tha Bluff.”

“i’ve been thinking a lot about it and i am not proud of myself for responding with song 33,” Noname wrote in a series of tweets on Sunday (June 21). “I tried to use it as a moment to draw attention back to the issues i care about but i didn’t have to respond. my ego got the best of me. i apologize for any further distraction this caused.”

But she didn’t remove the song and vowed to donate a portion of the funds to “various mutual aid funds.”
