Meek Mill hasn’t released a proper album since 2018’s Championships, but evidently that’s about to change. According to a recent tweet, the Dream Chasers boss plans to drop the follow-up before 2020 is over.

On Monday (October 19), Meek told his fans he had 10 minutes for an “Ask Meek” session and among the first questions was, “When the album dropping?” to which he replied, “This year lol.”

Although Meek didn’t offer any more details, the news should surely appease his fans who’ve been waiting for new material for roughly two years. Snippets of a song called “Pain Away” started making the internet rounds earlier this month and ultimately caught Drake’s attention.

On October 15, Meek posted an Instagram photo of himself leaning on a black Bentley with the caption, “Spur of the moment.” Taking notice, Drake hopped in the comment section and encouraged him to drop something fresh, writing, “Drop Pain Away.”

Soon after, Meek congratulated Yung Bleu for the single “You’re Mines Still,”  his collaboration with Drake, proving he’s been paying attention. The Philly-bred rapper has been more focused on his criminal justice reform initiatives than music as of late.

In May 2018, a few weeks after he was released from prison, Meek sat down with Dateline and explained why the topic is so important to him.

“We’ve always been divided in America … a lot of black people are in prison,” he said at the time. “A lot of Spanish men are in prison. A lot of these laws and policies are made to keep most of these minorities trapped forever. I had eight years of probation that turned into 16 years of probation. Something is not working. I’m still doing time for that case.”
