Li Yachty’s new album Let’s Start Here is a departure from his old sound.

The project is being described as a psychedelic rock album.

At a listening project for the album, which dropped Friday, Boat explained why he switched it up.

“This album is special.  I think I created it because I really want to be taken seriously as an artist.  Not just a SoundCloud rapper,”  Yachty said.  If we just gonna be honest, I mean, I had n*ggas that were copying the swag. I just felt like ‘Okay, cool, everyone can do this, that’s fine. But I’m gonna show y’all what y’all can’t do.’ You feel me? That’s what’s on this other side.”

Let’s Start Here is projected for about a 20K first week, which is weak by Boat’s standards.

So while the critics have enjoyed his new sound, audiences haven’t warmed to it yet.
