Outside of a win thanks to an assist on Chance The Rapper’s “No Problem” for Best Rap Performance in 2017, Lil Wayne hasn’t taken home a Grammy Award since his monstrous Tha Carter III dominated the 2009 ceremony. Weezy took to Twitter on Sunday (December 20) pondering why he’s fallen out of favor with the Recording Academy.

“As an artist, when I see da Grammys coming up & I’m not involved nor invited; I wonder. Is it me , my musik, or just another technicality,” he wrote. “I look around w respect & wonder competitively am I not worthy?! Then I look around & see 5 Grammys looking bak at me & I go to the studio.”

The New Orleans legend has been left out of the Grammy conversation in recent years, as the last project to receive a nomination being Tha Carter IV in 2012. Over the course of his 20-plus year career, he’s compiled 24 nominations and five wins in total — four of those coming in 2009.

Wayne previously referenced a Grammy snub rubbing him the wrong way on The Leak‘s “I’m Me” for Tha Carter II not receiving any love from the Recording Academy in 2007.

“Last year they had the Grammy’s and left me in Miami/Sleepin’ on a nigga like I’m rappin’ in my jammies,” he raps.

During an interview with Bumbu boss Brett Berish last week, Weezy reflected on his influence on the next generation of rappers lighting up the game today.

“Before I stepped into it, they had music everyone looked a certain way and everyone did a certain thing,” Wayne stated with a smirk. “Look at me, now look at music. They all look like me. I love it.”

Wayne returned on Friday (December 18) to surprise fans with the release of No Ceilings 3 B-SideThe extended cut features 14 new tracks and assists from Big Sean, 2 Chainz, Rich The Kid and more.
