The Montreal producer premiered “Caution” on TikTok as part of the platform’s Black History Month celebration.

After taking some time away from solo releases, KAYTRANADA appears to be back in a standalone mood.

Yesterday, the Montreal producer premiered the new track, “Caution,” on TikTok, taking part in the platform’s Black History Month celebration with an infectious and challenge-friendly instrumental. “Caution” joins Leon Bridges‘ commissioned cover of Pastor T.L. Barrett and The Youth for Christ Choir’s 1971 gospel epic, “Like a Ship,” in launching the TikTok campaign. But unlike Bridges’ contribution, the producer’s submission has been ported to DSPs for broader, non-TikTok, rotations.

The track arrives as a placeholder for the producer’s next project. In late 2019, KAYTRANADA released his sophomore studio album, BUBBA, as his major-label debut with RCA. Last year, the producer stripped the album of all vocal treatments, releasing an instrumental version that was quickly absorbed into the mash-up multiverse. And never one to leave the remix game, he also shared a hypnotic edit of Sade’s classic “Love is Stronger Than Pride,” as a loosie on his Soundcloud page.

But the producer’s collaborative streak is still alive and well. He supplied his little brother, Lou Phelps, with a grip of heat for the rapper’s 2020 EP, EXTRA EXTRA!, turned in an official remix of Dua Lipa’s “Don’t Start Now” and linked with Lucky Daye on the one-off single “Look Easy.”
