Joyce Wrice joins the NPR Tiny Desk Concert series, performing fan favorites from her debut album Overgrown and her new EP Motive.

Joyce Wrice proves that she’s here to stay in her NPR Tiny Desk Concert debut. The “On One” singer appeared in the concert series latest edition, backed by vocalists Astyn Turrentine and D’anna Stewart and a star-studded band including musician and songwriter D’Mile, keyboardist and singer-songwriter Mack Keane, guitarist Christian Carey and drummer Branden Akinyele.

During the set, Wrice performed six fan favorites, including “Chandler,” “Falling in Love”, “Must Be Nice”, “On One,” “Bittersweet Goodbyes,” and Kaytranada-produced track “Iced Tea.”

Earlier this month, Wrice released 5-track EP Motive which follows her 2021 debut album Overgrown. Artists who assisted Wrice on Overgrown included Freddie Gibbs, Lucky Daye, Westside Gunn, ESTA., Masego, Devin Morrison, Mndsgn and UMI. Earlier this year, she supported Lucky Daye on his Candydrip Tour, its North American leg concluding in April.

“In between coming off of my debut album and brainstorming ideas for my sophomore album, I was motivated to create an EP that the world could dance to,” shared Wrice in a statement about Motive. “This new project is experimental, fun, carefree, and sexy. After ‘Overgrown,’ I was inspired to be free-spirited and to let loose and during this process I was consistently asking myself, ‘what’s your motive?’”

“Wrice’s Tiny Desk concert is a stunning display of her talents, showing us where the San Diego bred, Los Angeles based singer has been and where she’s going next,” added NPR Music journalist Ashley Pointer. “Clad in all white and backed by a band wearing matching black Nike tracksuits and sneakers, they exude a vibe reminiscent of a family.”
