Fresh off the release of his latest musical effort, Hood Life Krisis Vol. 3, J.I. is back with more new music through his partnership with Spotify.

On Wednesday (January 6), J.I. unleashed two fresh cuts on the Spotify Singles playlist. Spotify Singles is a series that started in 2016 in which the popular streaming app brings artists from all over the world to record original songs and covers.

J.I’s two-track combo has him digging into his emotional bag as he details his ongoing relationship troubles. The first track strips down Hood Life Krisis Vol. 3 stand out “Letter 2 U” and has J.I. crooning all over a simple piano chord as he reflects on an ex he regrets letting go. On the second song, the Brooklyn-bred rapper added his own twist to a cover of Drake’s 2011 hit “Marvin’s Room.”

“The reasons why I picked these tracks are because ‘Letter 2 U’ was the first single off Hood Life Krisis Vol. 3 and was very well received,” J.I. said in a statement. “I picked to cover Drake because he is a prolific staple for Generation Z. ‘Marvin’s Room’ is a vibe so recreating this song made sense.”

The latest installment of J.I.’s mixtape trilogy, Hood Life Krisis Vol. 3, features seven tracks with a sole guest appearance by fellow New York rapper A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie. The project, released via G*Starr Entertainment and Geffen Records, garnered attention from all different outlets like Complex and Billboard. During his conversation with HipHopDX last year, J.I. spoke on the goals he set for himself with each project he drops.

“I’ve just been trying to show fans growth as far as me being versatile. I don’t really want to stay in the same lane and I don’t really want to do too much as far as mixing up and changing. I’m just trying to give it a good combination of both. I want to be able to convey growth. If I can’t, then I feel like the job that I’m doing isn’t really correct.”
